At Mayesbrook Park School we want our students to gain the knowledge of what is possible
Mayesbrook Park School believes that good CEIAG (careers education, information, advice and guidance) connects learning to the future. It motivates young people by giving them a clearer idea of the routes to jobs and careers that they will find engaging and rewarding. Good CEIAG widens pupils’ horizons, challenges stereotypes and raises aspirations. It provides pupils with the knowledge and skills necessary to make successful transitions to the next stage of their life. This supports social mobility by improving opportunities for all young people.
We want to ensure that we source the right providers to deliver meaningful and thought provoking workshops that inspire our students to achieve their full potential. To build collaborative relationships and networking opportunities that better serve our young people including visits to FE/HE. To have better employer links with real work experience opportunities. We strive to give our students the necessary tools so that they are better prepared for post 16 options when they leave us.
Here at Mayesbrook Park School we are working hard to meet the expectations set out in the Gatsby Benchmarks;
- To ensure that all students at the school receive a stable careers programme
- To enable all students to learn from information provided by the career and labour market
- The CEIAG programme should be individual and address the needs of each student
- To link the curriculum learning to careers learning
- To provide students with a series of encounters with employers and employees
- To provide students with experiences of workplace(s)
- To ensure that students have a series of encounters with further and higher education
- To provide each student with the opportunity to receive personal guidance
In the last academic year (2023/24) our school was part of the Mayor's Young Londoners Fund 'Back on Track' programme, organised by 15billionebp. This provides a wide range of support to students, funding workshops on employability, confidence building and issues affecting young people. This partnership has enabled our students to have the opportunity to visit employers, Uni visits, attend workshops and mock interviews. We were proud to take part in a work experience pilot for Alternative Provision with 15billionebp which was really successful and we hope to be able to offer similar programmes to our students in the future.
Mayesbrook Park School works with an experienced independent careers advisor who meets with all KS4 students across our School to offer careers information and guidance. KS3 students have access to our careers advisor when she is on site. We host a careers fair annually where students can meet with local colleges and providers and discuss opportunities with them in more detail. Students will have support in completing application forms and signing up for apprenticeships and college open events. Post 16 options and preparation is discussed across the curriculum.
Mayesbrook Park has a Transition Team with Transition Coaches who closely support our year 11's whilst preparing them for their post 16 destination. The team will then continue to work with the students after they have left us in Years 12 and 13 to ensure a smooth transition into employment, education and training. This continued support will include regular contact and visits to students. We hope to support students in sustaining their placements. Data from our students' destinations will be used to improve the effectiveness of our careers programme.
Over the coming year our focus will be Gatsby Benchmarks one, five and seven. We are working closely with the Careers & Enterprise Company to implement a stable careers programme. We are also part of the Local Future Careers Cluster. Organised by 15billionebp and funded by the Mayor of London/GLA and the European Social Fund, this network of 12 schools and colleges in Newham and Barking and Dagenham are provided with careers support in the form of needs analyses, careers education pilot programmes, funded work experience placements and careers strategies.
Staff, Student and parent feedback is regularly obtained so that we continuously improve our offer. We review our careers programme annually and this will be reviewed in July 2025. We also evaluate our programme termly against the Gatsby Benchmarks to assess our progress in these areas.
