Support for parents and carers

One of the biggest influences on a child’s life is their experiences at home. So, at Mayesbrook Park School, we work to build positive, trusting relationships with their parents/carers to improve our students’ chances of success.

We also work hard to keep parents up-to-date with how their child is getting on both academically and personally.

We realise that parents/carers, too, often need our support and advice. At Mayesbrook Park School, we have two family support workers: Tracy Evans (Erkenwald Campus) and Katy Waite (Mayesbrook Park Campus). Both are employed via School-Home Support, a UK charity that works with families to help students overcome their barriers to learning and improve their life chances. Tracy was the 2017 School-Home Support Practitioner of the Year, so we are lucky to have her working with us. 

Working with a range of outside agencies and organisations, Tracy and Katy support our students' families in many ways, helping them to engage with their child’s education and learn to resolve future issues independently. Support covers areas including:

• benefits, housing and financial problems
• school uniform issues
• parenting advice
• mental or physical health issues 
• improving their child’s attendance and behaviour
• supporting their child’s learning
• bereavement and family breakdown.
