What is an Ofsted report?
Ofsted (the Office for Standards in Education, Children’s Services and Skills) is the government department that inspects and regulates care and educational services for children and young people. It inspects all English maintained schools and academies at least once every three years. It then publishes a public report on the school’s performance, students’ work, observation reports on lessons and views from staff, parents and students, and makes suggestions for improvements that the school is expected to put into practice.
The report makes judgements on:
- achievements and standards
- pupils’ development and wellbeing
- the quality of teaching and learning
- how the curriculum is taught
- the care, guidance and support the school provides
- how well the school is led and managed.
Schools are rated on a four-point scale:
- Outstanding
- Good
- Requires improvement
- Inadequate
The school’s Ofsted rating
In our last Ofsted report in April 2024, Mayesbrook Park School was judged as “Good”, across the whole school. The last inspection was ungraded and made no change to the judgement of ‘good’, however, the report stated that the evidence gathered suggested the inspection grade might be outstanding if a graded (section 5) inspection were carried out at that time. The school’s next inspection will be a graded inspection.
