Students from Mayesbrook Park Campus recently visited the V&A Museum to explore its Architecture Gallery and take part in a creative design workshop focused on shaping spaces for the future. The visit brought together students from Years 9 to 11, offering a valuable opportunity to connect classroom learning with real-world design and architecture.

During the trip, students explored architectural models and sculptures, sketching ideas and gathering inspiration to design their own ‘familiar spaces’ - places where they feel comfortable and safe. Through discussion and presentation sessions, students reflected on how spaces can be made accessible, inclusive and sustainable.

Working with materials such as cardboard and paper, students created their own architectural models and confidently presented their ideas to peers and professionals, including experts linked to the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA).

Students shared their enthusiasm for the day:

Faiz (Year 11) said: I Really enjoyed the architecture and was fascinated by the sculpture.’ Kamran also from  (Year 11) said: ‘It was a very eye-opening trip and taught me a lot about the past and how buildings work. Loreta (Year 9) commented: ‘It was really fun and interesting -  I enjoyed the sketching and observing the sculpture and Gracie (Year 10) added: ‘I enjoyed the jewellery and making my own designs on the computer.,
