Bringing History and STEM to Life at the RAF Museum
Students from Erkenwald Campus, across Years 7 to 11 recently visited the Royal Air Force Museum for an engaging and immersive learning experience. The trip supported both curriculum learning and personal development, giving students the opportunity to explore history and science in a real-world setting.
Through seeing real aircraft, artefacts and interactive exhibitions, students developed an understanding of key historical events, including the role of the Royal Air Force during the the two World Wars. The visit also strengthened links to STEM learning, introducing students to the science behind flight, including aerodynamics, forces and aircraft design.
Students showed curiosity throughout the visit, particularly when engaging with sensitive historical content and demonstrated growing confidence by asking questions and sharing their ideas. A key outcome of the trip was the noticeable improvement in students’ understanding, with many able to explain how aircraft have evolved over time and why air power played such a significant role in conflict.
Overall, the visit provided a memorable experience that brought classroom learning to life, deepened knowledge, and inspired further interest in both history and science.
