Stepping back in time at Hampton Court Palace
Students from Erkenwald Campus recently visited Hampton Court Palace, taking their learning beyond the classroom and into one of the most iconic settings of the Tudor period.
Walking through the palace brought history to life in a way that books simply can’t. Students explored the world of Henry VIII, gaining a deeper understanding of the people, power and changes that shaped this period. Being able to see the rooms, architecture and surroundings first-hand helped them picture what life was really like, making their learning far more meaningful and memorable.
The visit also linked naturally to other subjects. Students found inspiration for descriptive writing in English, observed intricate design and architecture for art and considered the wider significance of the palace and its location.
Alongside curriculum learning, the trip helped students think more broadly about the future. Experiences like this highlight the wide range of careers connected to history - from heritage and conservation to education and tourism - showing how what they learn in school can lead to real opportunities.
Overall, it was an engaging day that sparked curiosity, deepened understanding and gave students a real sense of connection to the past!
