Erkenwald students submit designs for future living
Mayesbrook Park students have submitted their design proposals for green homes and a sustainable neighbourhood for the Design Future London Challenge – with the winners to be announced in May.
Run by the Mayor of London and TV architect George Clarke’s charity MOBIE (Ministry of Building, Innovation and Education), the challenge aims inspire young Londoners (aged 11 to 25) to learn about the built environment and job opportunities available in the sector, a major UK employer. The six Year 10 Erkenwald students have taken part in a number of workshops with leading architects, learning about model-making, CAD design and woodworking, as well as focusing on issues central to London’s Covid recovery – air quality, sustainable transport, affordable housing and green energy.
This has been a great opportunity for our students to learn how to work collaboratively to create their designs,” says Suresh Singh, Senior Leader, Curriculum Lead for Maths at the school. “Our school motto is ‘Nurturing and empowering our students to make positive choices’, and this challenge is enabling them to look to the future and make positive choices for themselves and others.
