Erkenwald students had a 3D experience on a recent visit to the headquarters of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) in London’s Portland Place.

The Year 10 students explored the iconic 1930s building’s architecture and built environment and, using 3D pens, created designs to modernise it. Sophie Draper, RIBA’s Learning Manager, also took the students on a tour of the building and RIBA’s world-class architectural collections and exhibitions to help bring Maths to life.

“These regular visits to RIBA – we make six a year – create a real love of the built environment and link our Maths curriculum to the real world of work thus nurturing and empowering our students to make positive choices,” explained Maths Leads Suresh Singh and Lambrina Markova

The students too gained a lot from the visit, saying: “Maths comes alive when you relate it to beautiful buildings” (Amy),  “I’d love to study architecture or a related career” (Summer) and “I love our visits. We see a whole new world” (Ella-May).
