RIBA Paper Architecture Workshop: Inspiring future architects
On Thursday, 12 December 2024, students participated in a creative and hands-on Paper Architecture workshop at RIBA (Royal Institute of British Architects). Led by RIBA Education, the session offered students the opportunity to explore architectural design, engage with the exhibition, and create their own architectural models.
Bryony Abbott from RIBA Education praised the students' efforts, saying: 'It was an absolute pleasure to work with students today. I was delighted to see them get so stuck into and absorbed by this activity, as well as drawing in the exhibition. They did fantastic work.'
The workshop sparked curiosity and future aspirations, with one student, Teagan, expressing a keen interest in becoming an architect. Teagan asked about the pathways into architecture and was directed to resources such as the RIBA careers webpage. She was also encouraged to research university courses to understand subject requirements for GCSEs and A Levels.
Reflecting on the session, Teagan shared her thoughts: 'Until today, I didn’t realise how many difficulties architects face. Not only do they have to design a solid and stable structure, but they also have to consider the soil, the environment, and sustainable building materials.'
Lambrina Markova, Maths Teacher, praised the students' engagement commenting: 'The students were creative, curious, and fully involved in the activities.'
This inspiring session not only developed students' creative thinking and problem-solving skills but also showcased architecture as a dynamic career path, encouraging them to consider the built environment and sustainable design.
